My Owl

Last weeks class at the Life Book was with Juliette Crane, How to paint whimsy animals. I did want to make an Owl and I did this little cute thing. But I did a mistake, I made her with a sleeves but not a wings so this is a Owl with sleeves surrounded with flying flowers, I must have been thinking of girl when I painted her and I was to tired efter my New York days. 

I think she is cute.

Going to practice more on whimsy animals.

Postcard swap... New York and more....

Last week I was on a trip to New York with my family. We stayed in Long Island for two nights with a family and then in Manhattan for two nights. 

We did have a very nice time both with the family and then in the city.

Just before we vent I made these postcards for a postcard swap I was taking part in.

Im always late posting here but someone has to be the last one...

I went to Michaels in Staten Island and bought a little art stuff, they did not have Golden gel so I have to get it later but I bought so cheep stamps, one dollar each some of them, here in Iceland I have to pay dollars 20 or more for each. 

I did not find it easy to find magazine from Stampington but I found two Somerset Studio and one Cloth, Paper, Scissors. I was going to buy Journaling but I have to order it as I did not find one.

Happy last PPF friday...

When I wake up I think of you...

I think this one is going to be my last Lovely Lady, I dont know how many I have made but I think they are about 30.. It is about time to start doing something else..

This one is the quiet one, dosent say much but does think more. She is young and she is in love. I think she is beautiful...

But maybe I cant stop and start a new one tomorrow and make them 40.. who knows..

Today is a beautiful day, the sun is shining and the weather is great.. think Im going to go for an Ice cream....

My guarding angels

I had to make more of my Guardian Angels, did not have any at home, all sold out. I like making my Angels, I think they all look so different and kind of cute..

I have been using 300 gr watercolor paper cold pressed and one day I tried hot pressed and Im very happy with that paper, it is like painting on silk, it is like the color is floating so nicely.

Now I have to make few more so that I can have ready for my exhibition in September but then Im going to have both Lovely Ladies and Guardian Angels.

A Big Lovely Lady...

First of all I want to thank all of you for your nice comments here and on my page. I was going to visit all of you an leave a comment for you but I think I'm only done with half of you.

I have been working on this Lovely Lady now for few days. I think I'm finished and I think I'm happy with her. Her colors are brighter, I should have waited for the daylight to take the photo.

This one has many layers and many colors. The size is 50x60 and she is painted on canvas. 

As you can see I have been using all kind of colored paper around her head and then I did start painting outlines and adding colors to the Lady and the background.

A little bit here and there, painting over adding stamps and more colors.. In the end I'm happy, might add a little doddeling here and there but not sure about that.

Welcome to Week 12 of Paint Party Friday (Year 2) and to the next edition of our Featured Artist Series! (Would you like to be a PPF Featured Artist? Please clickhere for details!) This week we are thrilled to feature a very versatile and enthusiastic artist all the way from Iceland. Please welcome Sigga Dis!

1) Please tell us a bit about your personal history with painting. (When did you start painting? How has your painting evolved since you first started?)

My name is Sigga Dís, I´m 53 years old, a Mixed Media artist and an art teacher, teaching children ages 6-16. I was 42 when I went to University to learn to become a teacher, an art teacher. I have always been doing some kind of art. Art class was my favorite class in school and I did go to art class after school too. I have been working with oils, acrylics, watercolors, glass, clay, making paper and just all kinds of material. If I´m not painting, I´m knitting or doing some needlework. I think my painting has been evolving all the time but today I feel like I can work with almost all materials without fearing that I can´t and that feels good.

2) What are your favorite techniques, media, and tools to use in creating your paintings?

I have been taking a few classes with Tam at Willowing.ning.com. The best class ever I think is the Live Book where Tam is teaching with I think 15 other teachers for one year. Each teacher teaches a different style and different technique. One of the teachers is Mystele. Something happened to me after her class where she was teaching us to paint ladies with a big nose and eyes all over the place. I just fell in love with her technique and since her class I have been painting and painting, having so much fun and liking my work very much. I'm using acrylics, watercolor, all kind of pens, stamps, paper, watercolor paper and just everything I have around me.

3) What is your favorite thing to paint? Why?

Painting angels has for a long time been my favorite. I have painted angels many ways, big and clumsy, small and beautiful and everything there in between. But I have also been painting all kind of things. Now after Tam's Fabulous Faces I learned how to draw faces and then I began to draw girls, ladies, beautiful angels and little girls. As I said before I´m painting clumsy but beautiful ladies now, but of course I continue taking Live Book classes as soon as they come every other week.

4) What is your proudest painting moment and/or greatest painting achievement so far?

I think that must have been when I had my first solo exhibition and sold a very expensive one. And now few weeks ago I was asked to have an exhibition, that was a good feeling. So now I´m going to have my 5th solo exhibition in 3 years and one more to come in September.

5) What's next in your painting future?

A few days ago I bought Kelly Rae´s e-book, Flying Lessons. It was on 50% discount for one day. I´m reading it and I´m going to learn from it now as I´m working on my own shop, having a blog and a FaceBook like page. Please come for a visit. It would make me very happy. I want to make something out of my art. And from now on I´m going to say like one of my FB friends said, I´m an artist and that feels good.

Happyness is always an inside job

Now I have made 17 Lovely Ladies for my next exhibition and I have one on my desk waiting for me to sit down and finish her so that she can join the others, get a nice frame and be ready for the show... then I have made 28 Lovely ladies since Mars.

Im not sure if I can make more, have to continue with my Live Book, I´m so far behind there. And then I have to work on my little glimpses page, I have not started there yet.. But that is ok, only one more week at school and then 9 week of sommer holidays.. cant wait..

Now it is PPF again and now Im not going to be the last one.. hopefully Ill be among the 10 first..

Never stop blooming

I had to take one week without painting, I was to tired and painting over and over again. Now I have started again and I like the one Im working on now, hope I dont have to paint over that one. 

I made this blooming girl just before all the mess and just love her, there is something so soft about her.

Now Mistele, my favorite teacher is having a new class on Live Book and I cant wait to start trying out the new things she is teaching to us this week. 

I know Im late,,,, it´s monday... but Happy PPF to you all.

Love is like a butterfly...

Good morning everyone..

Yesterday I did finish two of my Lovely Ladies and that is one of them. 

This is my butterfly girl.

On the next photo I show you how I made her, she did have all kind of eyes before I was happy with her look.

It takes many hour to make a girl like this one. Background - dry, draw - be happy, thin paint - dry, outlines - dry, stamp - dry, more background work - dry, paint the face - dry, paint the hair - dry, fix the face - dry, fix the hair - dry, cut - glu, fix a little here and there - sleep on it, be happy - or start all over again.. 

Thats how life is if you are an artist.. ❤

Seven more and Im ready for my third Exhibition....this year..

Now I have thirteen Lovely ladys ready, seven more to paint and Ill be ready for my third Exhibition this year, not bad..

I kind of like this friend of mine. 

Before she had a blue curly hair and a green dress but I did not like her dress so I made her change. Then I did send her to the hairdresser to change the color of her hair and make it strait...

Im waiting for the school to finish, three more weeks.. I cant wait although I love my job..

This time of the year Im always tired and counting the days till the school bell ring for the last  time.

Now I´m very much behind with the Live Book, but I have the summer to catch up so I can follow the rest.

Love is in the air....

Please meet my new Lovely Lady. She has been on my desk for few days but tonight I did finish her. Before she had a green dress and a blue kurly wurly hair and I did not like her so I did put Gesso all over her and started over again. Now Im happy with her, love the colors and kind of like her wings...

Now I have 9 ready but I have to have 20 ready for my exhibition in june. Ill have to use all my spear time painting. Right now I have 4 on my desk half done...

To day I was hanging up my students work at the Library because on thursday children's Art festival will start so I had to keep their work to have something to show. I will add some photos here soon. 

You are amazing just the way you are

A restaurant owner has asked me if I would like to have exhibition in her restaurant after 4 weeks.. and I said yes of cours.. The Karma restaurant is a very nice restaurant with healthy  food here in my home town Keflavík. I do go there as often as I can because I like their food so much. 

This Lovely Lady is looking at a beautiful butterfly thinking how amazing it looks with its beautiful blue wings..

I can live without money... but..

I made this one earlier but I was not happy with her so I did chance her, cut her hair and added wings, now I like her much better..

Yesterday I was asked if I would like to have another exhibition in june in a great restaurant in my hometown... I was so happy.. Now I must continue painting, need to make at least 10 more in one month.. I can do that, I think.

One more from the Live Book

This one I made for the Live Book, Tams class, honoring your past. This was a easy one, Im not very happy with it but think it is ok.

Very different..

Sometimes I have to make something very different like this one, looks a little crazy but I like this one.. I use, scrapbook paper, acryl, stamps, magazine, pens, golden gel medium and rub on butterfly stickers and a canvas.. It is fun playing with different material. 

Not bad at all..

On monday Ill close down my exhibition, give my Lovely Ladys to their new owners. I have had such a luck, selling almost all of my paintings. Now I have to continue painting, already made 5 new, have to make at least 5 more before I can start a new exhibition. Im looking for another local, small but cosy. And I have to start my Etsy shop, I have already made one but nothing is in there yet... Ill let you know...

Come fly away with me....

To day I made a new friend, one more lovely lady, this one has a little white bird standing on her shoulder whispering,, come, fly away with me... And I think she might just do that.. I like this one, been working on her since yesterday.... always changing but now Im happy with her, specially with the little white bird and how it looks like she is listening to him..

My new grab button and one more Lovely Lady

To day I did get a Grab Button for my blog. I did not know how to make it but there are so many helpful friends on my mixed media community on FB and one of them is Mary Nasser (you can go to her blog from my page, look to the right sidebar). Mary used half of her day helping me making mine. So now I have a Grab Button that I like a lot, take a look at the right side for that on too and feel free to grab the one and put it to your blog :-)

While Mary was working for me I was painting.. and now I have one more Lovely Lady friend.. Hope you like her, I do, love her colors..

My beautiful blue bird.

This is my Paint Party Friday lady... she does have her beautiful bird with her where ever she goes and he does sing for her. 

The text says something about that everyone think their bird is the most beautiful bird.

Fly on the wings of love...

I had to make one more of my lovely ladies. 

This one is having wings so Im sure that she can fly, she is so  much in love.. 

I kind of love these colors, burgundy brown/red and the turquoise blue, they are so nice together. And the butterfly wings I did cut out of a magazine, love them. 

Im so happy..

I love to paint, I could paint all day long. Most of the time I just forget my self and suddenly some one start screaming for food... I wish I had a cook in my house.

Now I dont know how many Lovely Ladies I have made, my exhibition is going so well, It is almost sold out... Not what I did expect but I cant tell you how happy Im about it. Now I can continue painting and try to find another exhibition place so I can spred my art all over the place. People are asking my if they can buy my art somewhere on the internet, not bad.. I must hurry up with my Etsy shop, Ill let you know..

Today is is a Friday and it is the 13th. 

And on fridays we Paint Party..

And I did this one, she looks little scary with these orange eyes but I like her, it is something about her...

Hope that you like her too, she is different from my others but thats ok, It is good to be able to paint in many ways I would think.

Good morning, good morning..

Im am still painting my lovely ladies. I dont know what I did paint before I had my class with Mistele. Something happend to me after that class. I love painting this way and I think my Lovely Ladies now are about 15. All of them or the most of them are having this big nose and their eyes ar not like a normal eyes, but I think they are so cute. 

Im having an exhibition in a little coffeehouse and the first day I did sell 5 of 12. Im so happy that Im selling, knowing that there is someone out there who likes what Im doing.  

If you are looking for a online class I recommend willowing.ning.com that is a wonderful girl name Tam that is having a lot of online classes with lot of teachers, fabulous teachers. I did start with the Fabulous Faces, then Mandala class and these two I did while I was waiting for The Live Book to start, but Live Book is a one year online class with Tam and 15 other teachers so almost every week we have a new class.

What a great way to start.

A new one for my exhibition..

I dont know if I told you but Im having a little exhibition im my hometowns coffeehouse. As far as I know I have all ready sold few. Im going to stay there tomorrow, expecting some visitors and I want to bee there to welcome them. I did make two new that Im going to take there with me tomorrow and this one is one of them..

I love to paint like I learned in Mysteles class. All these good looking woman are my best friends... Tomorrow Im going to hang all of them in a local and have a little exhibition.. There will be a lot of people going to that local on sunday because there is a big concert.. and after the concert Im going to hang them on the walls in a very nice coffeehouse.. and there I might sell some if Im lucky...

A beautiful painting..

I did paint this one for Ellie´s Journal, a special project im working on with few other woman all over the world.

A new work after Samantas class

The new project was to use a stencil from the teacher, Samantha Kira, a beautiful body and wings. 

I did change it a bit, added a arms and a leg and a head.....Im happy with it, like the soft stamps and the rings around her.

I made two new to night, this is one of them. 

Im going to be so busy this weekend, not having any time to paint so I did paint tonight in stead. 

I love to paint angels and I did this one for a friend who needed a gift for a friend, nice to be able to help..

Star ATC

I made a new set of ATC for February and mailed it to a lady in the USA. I have not got any back from her but I have something waiting for me at the postoffice, maybe it´s my new ATC. Ill find out tomorrow...

I made the card....

Today my systers daughter is graduating from her school, I got the job doing her graduating card, It took a long time and many layers but Im happy with it now. The little rabbit is her little brother which she loves a lot....

My and my work have been featured at the Willowing... yaaa..

I was very surprised when I got this letter from Tam, mother of Willowing... She made my day, what a honor.
